Who Can Take the Classes?

Short-term Peer-led Enrichment Language Lessons (SPELL) classes are open and free of charge to anyone in the Bates College community. Registration is required, and seats are limited.

Class Schedule and Registration

The class schedule and registration details will be available here in early April.

SPELL classes will take place in the first two weeks of the Short Term (between April 28 and May 9, 2025), in person, at 12:00 PM and 7:00 PM. These non-credit, enrichment, one-time classes allow participants to explore as many languages as they wish—take one class or attend multiple sessions.

This pilot program is funded by the Bates Faculty Development Fund through the project Piloting and Documenting the Effects of a Multilingual Program. All class participants will be invited to respond to an anonymous questionnaire after each class to document the program's impact and to guide improvements.
